    Mark Çuni was born into a Catholic family in northern Albania, a region long marked by strong faith and quiet endurance. He grew up during a time when Albania was sliding rapidly into totalitarian control. By the time Mark reached adolescence, the Communist regime had already begun targeting churches, clergy, and believers.

    Religious education was forbidden.
    Public worship was criminalized.
    Young people were indoctrinated to reject God.

    Mark was still very young when authorities identified him as openly Christian. He attended underground prayer gatherings and refused to hide his belief in Christ. This made him a target.
