Saint Abanoub Prayer Card – Patron for Protection of Children, Courage in Suffering & Comfort in Grief

$3.00

Saint Abanoub is one of the youngest martyrs of the Coptic Church, a child who bore witness to Christ with a courage that still pierces the heart centuries later. He lived in Egypt during the brutal persecutions of Emperor Diocletian, likely in the early fourth century, and is venerated today within the Oriental Orthodox tradition, especially by the Coptic Orthodox Church.

His feast day is celebrated on Abib 24 in the Coptic calendar (approximately July 31).

Abanoub was only twelve years old.

He had no earthly power.
No formal education in theology.
No protection from the state.

Yet when soldiers came to seize him for refusing to worship idols, he did not deny Christ.

People pray to Saint Abanoub today for the protection of children, for strength when facing suffering they did not choose, and for comfort when grief feels unbearable. His story speaks directly to parents who fear for their children, to families carrying loss, and to anyone who feels small in the face of overwhelming cruelty.

He teaches something sacred and unsettling.

Faith does not require age.
Courage does not require strength.
Holiness does not wait for adulthood.

If you are walking through fear for someone you love, or carrying sorrow that feels too heavy to explain, Saint Abanoub understands that pain. His short life reminds us that God sees every tear, especially those shed by children and by those who love them.

This prayer card is created as a spiritual heirloom. It is meant to sit quietly in your home as a reminder that innocence is precious, that God stands close to the vulnerable, and that no suffering goes unnoticed in heaven.

Each card is handmade in Austin, TX and created to order. We do not keep stock, because every prayer card is treated as a unique devotional offering. They are printed on museum-quality photo paper, not cardstock. Every card is made slowly, during prayer, with intentional reverence for the saint or holy image and for the person who will receive it. Names are lifted before Christ. Intentions are held carefully. Each piece is handled multiple times in prayerful silence, asking God for mercy and asking the saint or Theotokos to intercede for the soul it is being made for. This is not production work. It is devotional craftsmanship shaped with patience, care, and spiritual responsibility, because every soul and every prayer matters.

  • THE LIFE & STORY

Saint Abanoub was born in a small Egyptian village during one of the darkest periods in Christian history. The Roman Empire, under Emperor Diocletian, launched systematic persecutions designed to eradicate Christianity through terror.

    Churches were destroyed.
    Believers were imprisoned.
    Families were torn apart.

Abanoub was raised in a Christian home and taught to love Christ from early childhood. His parents nurtured his faith quietly, knowing the danger that surrounded them. By the time he was twelve, Abanoub already carried a deep awareness of God and a childlike devotion shaped by prayer and trust.

When imperial soldiers arrived in his village searching for Christians, Abanoub was brought before the governor.

He was asked to offer incense to idols.

    He refused.

They mocked him for his age. They threatened him with punishment. They assumed fear would silence him.

Instead, the child spoke with clarity.

    He confessed Christ openly.

What followed was cruelty no child should ever endure.

Ancient Coptic accounts tell of beatings and torture meant to frighten him into submission. Yet Abanoub remained steadfast, praying quietly and calling on Jesus. Witnesses recorded that he endured suffering with unusual peace, encouraging others even as his own body was wounded.

At one point, he was transported between cities, chained and publicly humiliated. Along the way, Christians secretly brought him food and water, strengthening him in small acts of mercy.

Eventually, Abanoub was executed for his faith.

    He was twelve years old.

His body was taken by believers and buried with reverence. Almost immediately, devotion began to grow around his grave. Parents brought their children. The grieving came seeking comfort. The fearful asked for protection.

His martyrdom became a quiet lighthouse in a violent age.

Saint Abanoub did not preach sermons.
    He did not write theology.
    He offered his life.

    And heaven received it.
