Saint Joseph, the earthly guardian of Jesus Christ and the spouse of the Virgin Mary, is one of the most honored saints in all of Christianity. When Joseph discovered that Mary was with child before they lived together, he intended to quietly separate from her rather than expose her publicly. Yet after an angel appeared to him in a dream revealing God’s plan, Joseph immediately obeyed and took Mary as his wife.
From that moment forward, Joseph devoted his life to protecting Jesus and Mary.
When King Herod sought to kill the Christ Child, an angel again warned Joseph in a dream, and he led his family into Egypt to escape the massacre. Later, he safely returned them to Nazareth, where he faithfully raised Jesus and taught Him the trade of carpentry.
Though Scripture records no words from Joseph, his actions revealed extraordinary holiness.
