Saint Menas (Mar Mina) Prayer Card – Patron for Healing, Protection & Courage in Fear

$3.00

Saint Menas, known lovingly in Egypt as Mar Mina, is one of the most powerful and beloved martyrs of early Christianity. A soldier who laid down his weapons to follow Christ openly, he lived in the late third and early fourth centuries and was executed during the persecutions of Emperor Diocletian.

He belongs to the ancient, undivided Church and is venerated across Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, and Catholic traditions, though he holds especially deep devotion within the Coptic Church.

His primary feast day is celebrated on November 11 in the Coptic calendar, with commemorations on November 24 in the Eastern Orthodox calendar.

Menas was trained for battle.

He knew discipline, loyalty, and command. Yet when imperial authorities demanded pagan sacrifice and the renunciation of Christ, he publicly confessed his faith. He removed his military insignia and declared that he served a greater King.

What followed was imprisonment, torture, and martyrdom.

People pray to Saint Menas today for healing of illness, protection from danger, courage when fear overwhelms, and strength during times of uncertainty. He is especially invoked by those seeking physical healing, those facing anxiety about safety, and families asking for divine protection over their homes.

He knew what it meant to stand alone.
He knew what it meant to surrender security.
He knew what it meant to face suffering without retreat.

If you are walking through illness, fear, instability, or spiritual heaviness, Mar Mina understands that battlefield. His witness reminds us that God’s power moves through faithfulness, and that protection often comes through surrender rather than force.

This prayer card is created as a spiritual heirloom. It is meant to remain quietly in your prayer corner as a reminder that heaven is not distant, that intercession is real, and that courage grows in trust.

Each card is handmade in Austin, TX and created to order. We do not keep stock, because every prayer card is treated as a unique devotional offering. They are printed on museum-quality photo paper, not cardstock. Every card is made slowly, during prayer, with intentional reverence for the saint or holy image and for the person who will receive it. Names are lifted before Christ. Intentions are held carefully. Each piece is handled multiple times in prayerful silence, asking God for mercy and asking the saint or Theotokos to intercede for the soul it is being made for. This is not production work. It is devotional craftsmanship shaped with patience, care, and spiritual responsibility, because every soul and every prayer matters.

  • THE LIFE & STORY

Saint Menas was born in Egypt into a Christian family during a time when Christianity was often hidden for survival. As a young man, he entered the Roman army, rising in rank and earning respect for discipline and bravery.

But his loyalty to Christ remained deeper than his loyalty to Rome.

When persecution intensified under Diocletian, soldiers were ordered to offer sacrifices to pagan gods. Menas refused. In some accounts, he voluntarily left the army and withdrew into the desert to live in prayer before returning publicly to confess Christ.

He presented himself before authorities and declared openly that he was a Christian.

He was arrested, beaten, and tortured in an attempt to force him to renounce his faith. Ancient traditions recount severe physical suffering, yet Menas remained steadfast. Witnesses described his calm endurance and unwavering confession.

    Finally, he was executed.

After his martyrdom, Christians carried his body into the desert for burial. According to early accounts, camels carrying his relics stopped miraculously at a specific location near Lake Mareotis. Believers understood this as a divine sign and buried him there.

Soon, miracles began to be reported at his tomb.

Pilgrims traveled from across the Roman world to seek healing and protection. Small flasks known as ampullae bearing his image were filled with oil or water from his shrine and carried home by the faithful. These artifacts have been discovered across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, testifying to the widespread devotion to Mar Mina in late antiquity.

The site of Abu Mena in Egypt became one of the most important pilgrimage centers of the early Church.

Saint Menas’ legacy is not merely historical.

    It is intercessory.

His witness continues to echo through centuries of prayer.
