About Saint Genesius. Genesius is remembered as an actor and the leader of a theater troupe in Rome who became a Christian and was beheaded. A Saint Genesius was venerated in Rome as early as the 4th century, and in 741 Pope Gregory III repaired and beautified a church in his honor.
Tradition. The popular story says that Genesius was performing a mock baptism before Emperor Diocletian when he was moved to convert, and that he then refused to renounce his new faith. The Acts of his martyrdom date from the 7th century, and their accuracy is questionable, so this account is best understood as legend.
Choose this candle for an actor, a comedian, a musician or dancer, a theater student, a lawyer, or a new convert.
