Saint Paraskeva of the Balkans Prayer Candle | Saint Petka | Parascheva of Iasi | Romanian Orthodox Saint Candle 13.75 oz | Orthodox Gift
This Saint Paraskeva prayer candle honors Saint Petka, also called Parascheva the New, an ascetic woman whose relics rest at the cathedral of Iași in Romania. It is a meaningful gift for Romanian and other Orthodox Christians.
About Saint Paraskeva. Paraskeva, also called Petka, was born in Epivates near Constantinople, in what is now Selimpaşa, Turkey, and lived in the 11th century. She was an ascetic who lived in Chalcedon, Heraclea Pontica, and a desert convent near the Jordan River. She died at Kallikrateia at about age 27.
Her relics were moved several times, to Veliko Tarnovo in 1238, to Belgrade in 1393, and to Constantinople in 1521. They reached Iași in 1641, and since 1888 they have rested in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iași, a major pilgrimage site in Romania.
Choose this candle for a Romanian Orthodox family, a pilgrim returning from Iași, a woman named Paraskeva or Petka, or someone who sews, weaves, or quilts.
