Saint Sarkis was a high-ranking military commander in the Roman Empire during the 4th century. Known for his bravery and leadership, he was also deeply committed to his Christian faith at a time when it was dangerous to openly follow Christ.
As persecution intensified, Sarkis refused to participate in pagan practices or deny his belief. Because of this, he was forced into exile along with his son, Saint Martiros. Even in exile, Sarkis continued to live boldly as a Christian, inspiring others through his faith and courage.
His witness led many to convert, but it also drew the attention of those who opposed Christianity. Eventually, Sarkis and his son were arrested and commanded to renounce their faith. When they refused, they were put to death, becoming martyrs for Christ.
Saint Sarkis is remembered not only for his physical courage as a soldier, but for his spiritual courage in choosing faithfulness over fear.
